Starting on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, CREA is updating the functions of the MLS® Home Price Index (HPI) tool.

What’s changing? 

CREA is changing the MLS® HPI methodology and using data collected from the previous five-year rolling period to keep in line with modern housing trends. 

The new method helps ensure benchmark prices reflect those of current housing stock. All benchmark price data will be recalculated based on the most up-to-date set of attributes to paint a clearer picture of individual Canadian housing markets. 

The result is an improved “apples to apples” comparison applied evenly to all data.
