TRREB’s Government Relations Committee (GRC) East Working Group is focusing on policy issues and regional development impacting housing supply and affordability across Durham Region. The Working Group hosted a roundtable with the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA).
A representative from HOPA discussed key initiatives driving regional economic growth, such as the Hoverlink, which aims to reduce commercial transport congestion and improve safety by shifting freight transportation to marine corridors. To support this momentum, HOPA is actively expanding its network beyond Hamilton, Oshawa, and Niagara, with long-term strategies exploring future expansion into Windsor and Sault Ste. Marie.
The Working Group discussed local issues, including Pickering receiving Building Faster Fund support in 2025, as well as updated growth figures across Durham Region, reflecting continued expansion in the eastern GTA. Members also reviewed information on the Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment and planned new expansion project, noting its broader economic and infrastructure implications for the region.
TRREB remains committed to working with municipal and regional partners in Durham to advance policies that support sustainable growth, housing supply, and improved affordability across these communities.
