Inspired by Bruce Johnson’s Motorcycle for Miracles, Jennifer Evelyn’s Paddle for Miracles was born. Jennifer is an Oshawa-based REALTOR® who set a goal to paddle from Toronto to Ottawa to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. After 28 days, she reached her finish line at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa. Jennifer set a goal of $50,000, then upped it to $100,000, but surpassed both and raised $125,000. The funds will go to 170 hospitals, including 14 in Canada to fund research, treatments, healthcare services and medical equipment.

The cold and dark winter season can get lonely, especially for seniors who live alone. That’s why Nancie Mcleod decided “Soup with a Smile would be the perfect way to warm them up.” For five weeks, she stirred up homegrown squash and delivered jars of soup to her neighbours. She also posted pictures on social media in hopes of inspiring friends and family to do the same. “The more soup and smiles out there, the better,” said Nancie.

To give back to her community, Kelly Meek supports two organizations that encourage tomorrow’s leaders to thrive and grow. For each transaction, she donates a portion of her earnings to Camp Mini-Yo-We and Fight4Freedom. Camp Mini-Yo-We is a summer camp for kids that offers outdoor activities, like biking, canoeing and team-building adventures. Kelly also feels strongly about advocating for the justice of human trafficking victims. Fight4Freedom provides necessary support systems and a journey to safety, healing and moving forward.

Lina Risi is proud to help Furniture Bank in Toronto’s Riverdale community. Furniture Bank redistributes thousands of furniture and household goods to women and children leaving shelters and newcomers or refugees to Canada. Twice a year, Lina organizes a neighbourhood pickup for gently used furniture. The last pickup helped 18 families turn a house into a home with donated chairs, tables and housewares.
